Wintertime Community Events in Midland-Odessa Rogers Ford Blog

In Midland and the Permian Basin, community is at the heart of everything we do. Here are a handful of winter events that deliver smiles and fun and make our community stronger.

Midland Community Theatre provides opportunities for all people of all ages to participate in and experience quality theatre arts and education. The goal of the MCT is to entertain and make you smile; it promises that there is something for everyone in every production. In February, Cinderella will be staged for all ages at the Davis I auditorium on Friday and Saturday evenings with one Sunday matinee. In March, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, for ages 8 and up, takes the stage at Maybee Theatre II. Based on the classic short story by Washington Irving, it’s the story of Ichabod Crane vying for the hand of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel. Both productions star aspirating players from Midland-Odessa and beyond. Watch as their dream of performing on a big stage comes true. Auditions for the spring production of Noises Off take place February 27th and 28th.

Anthus Parents’ Night Out: Open Table is a community dinner for you and your partner to meet other amazing couples. This will be a no-kids, no-cleanup, no-stress dinner where you can eat your food while it’s hot and laugh as loud as you want, all while enjoying some live music from local musician David Duque who will play acoustic guitar. Childcare for the February 18th, 7 PM dinner will be available through The Little Gym. This is a recurring quarterly event to promote strong community ties among local parents; to quote the organizers, “We all need community, and it’s even better when it’s over food.”

The Wacky Wig Run, in support of the educational programs of the Permian Basin Opera, is on February 26th at 10 AM at the Scharbauer Sports Complex in Stanton. There will be a 5K run and the 1-mile kids’ walk. The young and young at heart are encouraged to wear costumes. Prizes for best wig and costume will be awarded. Activities for kids will immediately follow the conclusion of the fun run. The race entry fee is $20. Kids and strollers are free.
